Kalka–Shimla Train Service Resumes After 5 Days

Due to several landslides triggered by heavy rainfall, railway authorities had suspended train services on the Kalka–Shimla route until September 5.
Today, services on the UNESCO World Heritage Kalka–Shimla railway line have resumed after being disrupted by landslides. Three trains completed their journeys from Kalka to Shimla.
The first train arrived in Shimla at around 8:45 AM, followed by the second train on schedule at 1:30 PM. The last train from Kalka reached Shimla railway station at approximately 5:30 PM. Passenger occupancy was around 50%, with half the seats remaining empty.
The rail tracks were severely affected by heavy rains on August 31 and September 1. Large amounts of debris blocked the tracks near Koti railway station, about six kilometers from Parwanoo in Solan district, and near Kanoh railway station, around 33 kilometers from Shimla.
Following the landslides, railway officials had issued a notification stating that train services on the Kalka–Shimla route would remain suspended until September 5 to allow for restoration work. The track restoration has now been completed.
After clearing the debris, a trial run was conducted on Saturday, and regular services were restored today. Officials have confirmed that all five trains operating on the route will resume services from Monday.
With the train services back on track, tourism stakeholders are hopeful for an increase in tourist footfall in the city.
