On the occasion of Teachers’ Day, Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla today conferred State Awards on 32 teachers. The awardees included 19 school teachers, six teachers from colleges, and six from technical institutes. Last year’s National Award-winning teacher, Sunil Kumar, was also honored with the State Award. In addition, seven school teachers received Certificates of Excellence in recognition of their outstanding work. This marks the first time that college and technical institute faculty have been included in the State Awards.

Congratulating the teachers, the Governor urged them to go beyond classrooms, embrace innovation, and instill a sense of responsibility in students. He appealed to them to contribute to the state’s Nasha Mukt Himachal (Drug-Free Himachal) campaign by raising awareness among youth about staying away from substance abuse. Highlighting the increasing frequency of natural disasters caused by unchecked construction and deforestation, he also stressed the urgent need for environmental conservation.

The Governor underlined the importance of the National Education Policy 2020, which promotes holistic education rooted in Indian traditions, values, research, and innovation.

Education Minister Rohit Thakur welcomed the Governor and reiterated the state government’s commitment to enhancing the quality of education. He pointed to several initiatives, including the transparent selection of awardees, opportunities for teachers to visit foreign institutions, nationwide educational tours for students, and the introduction of English as a medium of instruction from Class 1.

Technical Education Minister Rajesh Dharmani expressed gratitude for the inclusion of technical teachers in the awards for the first time. He emphasized that teachers across disciplines should focus more on the practical aspects of their subjects to better prepare students for global competition.

The awardees said the honor would inspire them to work with even greater dedication.
