Pong Dam Water Level Reaches Year’s Peak
Inflow Declines Despite Rising Reservoir Level

Officials reported on Friday that the water level at Pong Dam, built on the Beas River, has reached its highest mark of the year at 1,394.71 feet—around 4.71 feet above the danger level. The level stood at 1,394.51 feet on Thursday.
While the reservoir level continues to rise, inflows have begun to decline. On Friday morning, the inflow was recorded at 105,950 cusecs, down from 132,595 cusecs the previous day. Outflow, however, remained nearly unchanged at 99,673 cusecs, compared with 99,769 cusecs a day earlier.
Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa said the situation is being closely monitored, particularly as the dam had reached critical levels during the monsoon season. “Water is being released in a controlled manner to manage pressure on the reservoir,” he added.
Managed by the Bhakra Beas Management Board, Pong Dam is a vital water storage facility that supports irrigation, drinking water supply, and power generation.
Bairwa also urged residents of low-lying areas to remain alert, as large volumes of water continue to be discharged from the dam.
