Nurpur (Himachal Pradesh): Continuous heavy rainfall over the past several days has triggered a massive landslide and ground subsidence in Muganial village of Minjgran panchayat, Nurpur, leaving six families homeless. Large cracks have appeared in residential structures, rendering them unsafe for habitation. Six houses and six cowsheds belonging to Scheduled Tribe (Gaddi) families were damaged in the disaster.

This is not the first time the village has faced such devastation. In August 2023, a similar subsidence incident displaced six families. After receiving information about the latest landslide, local residents, the panchayat pradhan, and elected members rushed to the site and shifted the affected families to safer locations. Temporary shelter is being arranged in the panchayat office and the local Anganwadi center.

Panchayat pradhan Suman Sharma said she immediately alerted the administration after receiving news of the landslide. She warned that if timely preventive measures are not taken, the entire village could face recurring disasters, as much of its populated area lies on fragile hillside terrain prone to landslides.

Nurpur Tehsildar Radhika Saini, who inspected the damaged homes, confirmed that the houses of Chain Singh, Lekh Raj, Maya Devi, Raj Kumar, Sajivan, and Barfi Ram were severely damaged and no longer habitable.

SDM Nurpur Arun Sharma stated that the administration has provided plastic tent sheets as immediate relief. Affected families have been asked to apply online through Lok Mitra Kendras with supporting documents of their damaged homes to claim compensation under the revised state relief guidelines.

Meanwhile, in Hadal panchayat of Nurpur, another landslide damaged three houses, and those families too have been shifted to safer places.
