Landslide Blocks NH-5, Traffic Disrupted on Parwanoo–Dharampur Stretch

Traffic movement on the busy Parwanoo–Dharampur section of National Highway (NH)-5 came to a standstill this afternoon after a massive landslide near Sanwara sent boulders and debris tumbling onto the road. The highway, a key route to Shimla, usually carries heavy traffic, and within minutes long queues of vehicles had formed on both sides.
Workers and machinery were quickly deployed to clear the debris, but it took more than two hours to reopen two lanes for traffic. However, the uphill lane remains blocked, as loose rocks and debris continue to fall from the hillside.
Officials noted that continuous rainfall in the region has weakened slopes, causing repeated landslides over the past three days. Solan SSP Gaurav Singh confirmed that traffic was partially restored around 2 p.m., though the situation remains precarious due to ongoing slope erosion.
