Himachal Pradesh continues to face relentless rainfall, with the Meteorological Department issuing a yellow alert for Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, and Sirmaur districts for Thursday. Light to moderate rain has been forecast across the state until September 9.

On Tuesday, heavy downpours caused the water level of the Sutlej River to rise sharply, touching the Thali bridge at Sunni in Shimla district. Low-lying areas near Kalighat and the ITI at Sunni were inundated, forcing the evacuation of two families to safer locations.

According to the State Emergency Operations Centre, 1,364 roads, including five national highways, remain closed across Himachal Pradesh due to landslides and flooding. These include:

  • Mandi: 295 roads, including NH-03
  • Shimla: 234 roads
  • Kullu: 226 roads, including NH-305
  • Chamba: 204 roads
  • Sirmaur: 121 roads
  • Solan: 86 roads
  • Kangra: 53 roads
  • Lahaul-Spiti: 49 roads, including NH-505
  • Una: 46 roads, including NH-503
  • Bilaspur: 25 roads
  • Kinnaur: 13 roads, including NH-05
  • Hamirpur: 12 roads

The rain has also disrupted 3,207 power distribution transformers—most severely in Kullu (1,096), Sirmaur (625), and Solan (529)—causing widespread electricity outages. In addition, 1,062 water supply schemes have been hit, including 339 in Shimla, 212 in Kangra, and 194 in Chamba.

In the past 24 hours, several regions have recorded heavy to very heavy rainfall. Naina Devi in Bilaspur received the highest at 136 mm, followed by Pachhad in Sirmaur (77 mm), Chamba (66 mm), Bilaspur (60.4 mm), Manali (57 mm), Palampur (52.6 mm), Nahan (43.2 mm), Keylong (34 mm), Dharamshala (32.8 mm), Shimla (30.8 mm), Bhuntar (30.4 mm), Kufri (29 mm), Kangra (20.7 mm), Mandi (19.8 mm), Kalpa (14.2 mm), and Sundernagar (12.7 mm).
