Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri on Tuesday said that Himachal Pradesh has suffered losses worth over ₹2,623.36 crore in the ongoing spell of heavy rains, which has severely damaged public infrastructure such as roads, bridges, and private property.

Making a statement in the Assembly on the current situation, he informed that so far 310 people have lost their lives, while 38 remain missing. “The maximum damage has been to roads, bridges, and water and power supply systems, with districts like Mandi, Kullu, Chamba, and Lahaul-Spiti being the worst affected,” he said.

Agnihotri further stated that over the last three days, 3,269 pilgrims visiting the Manimahesh Yatra — including 1,730 men, 1,259 women, and 280 children — have been evacuated to safety. “NDRF and SDRF teams have been deployed across the pilgrimage route, and personnel from the Mountaineering Institute in Manali have also joined the rescue efforts,” he added. The pilgrimage had been suspended between August 24 and 26 following heavy rain and destruction in Chamba.

He also said that mobile connectivity and road access have been restored up to Chamba town, while power and telecom services have resumed in Kullu district. “However, the Manali–Leh highway remains blocked at several points, though efforts are on to reopen it. Tourists stranded along the Udaipur–Pangi route have been shifted to safer locations,” Agnihotri noted.

According to him, 136 people stranded in 98 vehicles at Stingri have been rescued, while those stuck at Sissu were evacuated through the Kaza–Kinnaur route.
