Tourist Advisory in Himachal Pradesh: Road and Hill Station Updates
Himachal Pradesh continues to grapple with severe disruptions as at least 700 roads remain blocked or washed away due to swollen rivers, streams, and frequent landslides.
Shimla, Updated At : 13:47 PM Aug 27, 2025 IST
While Shimla and other parts of the state saw sunshine today after several days of heavy rain, road connectivity across Himachal remains poor, affecting access to major tourist destinations such as Kullu, Manali, Chamba, Lahaul-Spiti, and Kinnaur.
Situation at Key Destinations
Kullu/Manali
The Chandigarh–Manali highway is functional up to Mandi. However, beyond Mandi, multiple blockages have severed road access to Kullu, Manali, and Lahaul-Spiti.
Dharamshala/McLeodganj
The Dharamshala–Chamba route remains closed. The Dharamshala–McLeodganj road has been reopened for light vehicles, though disruptions persist. The Pathankot–Dharamshala road is also partially blocked.
Chandigarh/Shimla
The Chandigarh–Shimla National Highway (NH-05) is open. Apart from occasional one-way traffic near the landslide-prone Chakki Mod, tourists can reach Shimla and Kasauli without major difficulty. However, NH-05 is blocked at Nigulsari, cutting off direct access to Kinnaur.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has issued an Orange Alert for August 29–31, warning of the likelihood of more heavy rain.
