Rain Havoc: Chamba District Reels Under Floods and Destruction
Nine houses damaged in Haloon village; pilgrims with health issues airlifted to safety

Relentless rainfall and flash floods have wreaked havoc in Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba district, leaving several areas in crisis. Mobile and internet services are down, and all roads leading to Chamba remain blocked due to landslides.
The Ravi River, swollen by continuous downpours, has submerged a significant portion of Haloon village. At least nine houses have been washed away, while several others remain under threat. Fortunately, local authorities confirmed that the houses were evacuated in time, and no casualties have been reported from the village.
Social media reports suggest that soil erosion caused by the river’s strong current has destroyed nearly half of the settlement.
The situation in Dalhousie is also alarming, with local MLA D.S. Thakur reporting six cloudburst incidents in a single day. More than 50 homes are now at risk, while residents have been struggling for the past two days without electricity, water supply, or mobile connectivity.
BJP MLA Dr. Janak Raj added that mobile networks in Bharmour have been down for two consecutive days, making it difficult for the district administration to coordinate rescue and relief operations. There are concerns that several pilgrims traveling for the Mani Mahesh Yatra may be stranded in isolated locations. The district administration has sought assistance from the Army to help restore connectivity and support relief measures.
Meanwhile, some pilgrims who reported health issues were airlifted from Bharmour by helicopter. However, due to severely disrupted communication networks, the condition and whereabouts of other stranded devotees in different areas remain unclear.
