Three days of incessant rainfall have thrown life out of gear in Sirmaur district, causing widespread disruption across the region. On Tuesday, landslides and road cave-ins triggered by the downpour forced the closure of 41 major district and state highways under the Public Works Department (PWD).

The worst hit was the Shillai division, where 21 roads were blocked, followed by Sangrah with eight, Nahan with seven, and Rajgarh with five roads remaining cut off throughout the day.

The halt in vehicular movement caused severe inconvenience to commuters, patients, government employees, and traders. By late evening, the PWD managed to restore traffic on 30 roads with the help of JCB machines.

According to PWD estimates, damages to road infrastructure over the past two days have amounted to nearly ₹73.80 lakh. Farmers too have borne heavy losses, with cash crops such as tomatoes, capsicum, and French beans badly affected. In several areas, maize fields were flattened by strong winds accompanying the rains, further compounding the woes of local cultivators.

While all four national highways passing through Sirmaur remained open, travel on the Nahan–Sarahan–Kumarhatti route was severely hampered by frequent landslides. At Sadhanaghat near Nainatikker, continuous rockfall posed a serious threat to vehicles and passengers.

The Education Department reported a loss of ₹10 lakh after retaining walls of the Government Senior Secondary School at Bharog Baneri collapsed due to the rains. In addition, Joginder Singh of Bhutli village in Nohra Dhar suffered damages worth ₹10,000 to his mud house, while Desh Raj of Mauj Riwadla in Narg lost a cow valued at ₹35,000.

In the Shillai Assembly segment, cowsheds belonging to Shobha Ram of Sharli Manpur and Kanwar Singh of Guddi Manpur collapsed, each incurring losses of about ₹50,000.

The district administration has directed concerned departments to expedite relief and rehabilitation efforts for the affected people.
