According to district administration figures, the dam recorded an inflow of 146,174 cusecs, significantly higher than the outflow of 39,837 cusecs. Officials of the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) said the steady rain in the Beas river catchment areas is driving the surge in water levels.
At Shahnehar Barrage, the flow was measured at 28,112 cusecs. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation to ensure safety in low-lying areas.
The Kangra district administration has urged residents of ‘mand’ areas along the Beas river to remain vigilant, warning that continued heavy inflow could lead to an increase in water discharge from the dam.
In Fatehpur subdivision, villages such as Rehatpur, Re, and Riali have been affected, while in Indora subdivision, Badukhar, Bahadur, Bhogarwan, Paral, Surdwan, Indora, Miani, Sanaur, Malkana, Kathgarh, Milwan, and adjoining areas have suffered extensive damage. Thousands of acres of paddy fields have been submerged, and hundreds of families in low-lying areas have been forced to move to safer locations.
