In a crackdown on illegal mining and unauthorized mineral transport, the Mining Department carried out surprise inspections in Paonta Sahib and Nahan subdivisions of Sirmaur district on Friday night.

During the operation, six dumpers loaded with sand, gravel, and stones were caught without valid documents in the Kolar, Shambhuwala, and Kala Amb areas. The vehicles were seized by a departmental team led by Nahan Mining Inspector Nishant Sharma, and fines totaling ₹1.5 lakh were imposed on the violators. The sudden raids created panic among transporters attempting to move minerals under the cover of darkness.

The operation followed specific inputs regarding the movement of mining mafias using National Highway 7 at night. Acting on the tip-off, the Mining Department set up surprise check-posts at Kolar, Shambhuwala, and Kala Amb.

Upon verification, none of the drivers could produce the required royalty slips, M-forms, or e-transport passes, confirming that the minerals were being transported illegally.

Sirmaur District Mining Officer, Kulbhushan Sharma, confirmed the action and said the crackdown on illegal mining and mineral transport will continue. He added that no unlawful activity of this nature will be tolerated in the district.
