Mandi, August 15 –
Himachal Pradesh celebrated its 79th Independence Day on Friday with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervor. The state-level celebrations were held in Sarkaghat, Mandi district, where Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu presided over the event. Braving the rain, the Chief Minister unfurled the national flag, saluted the tricolour, and inspected the ceremonial parade. In his address, he made several major announcements for the people of the state.

1,700 New Recruitment Posts
The Chief Minister announced the recruitment of 1,700 posts in the state, including 600 Patwaris, 600 JBT teachers, 300 Panchayat Secretaries, and 200 doctors. To ensure transparency, reforms have been introduced in the Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission’s selection process. The final merit list will now be prepared based on combined scores from both the written examination and the interview.

₹100 Crore for Disaster Relief
He declared an additional ₹100 crore relief package for disaster-affected people, with a major share allocated to Mandi district.

No Mid-Session Retirement for Teachers
Teachers in government institutions will no longer be retired in the middle of an academic session. Additionally, 200 CBSE-affiliated schools will be opened across the state. To boost youth employment, 2,000 permits for e-three wheelers will be issued.

‘Anti-Chitta Volunteer Scheme’ Against Drug Abuse
Reiterating that eliminating drugs is the government’s top priority, the CM announced the formation of anti-drug committees in every village and panchayat, comprising the panchayat secretary, ASHA worker, anganwadi worker, and a head constable, who will act as the nodal officer at the panchayat level. SHOs and SPs will regularly attend these meetings to review drug-related issues. The new ‘Anti-Chitta Volunteer Scheme’ will provide incentives to volunteers for prevention efforts, awareness campaigns, and sharing confidential information. A Drug De-addiction, Prevention, and Rehabilitation Board will also be set up, involving departments of Home, Health, Social Justice, Education, Youth Services, Sports, Panchayati Raj, Prisons, and Police.

Steps in the Energy and Health Sectors
Interest subsidies will be provided for solar projects in both tribal and non-tribal areas, with the Himachal Pradesh Electricity Board purchasing the power generated to ensure steady income for locals. An allocation of ₹61 crore has been made for this initiative. The CM also announced that the Atal Medical and Research University will be shifted from Nerchowk to Sarkaghat.

Special Benefits for Sarkaghat
For Sarkaghat, the CM announced the expansion of the local hospital from 100 to 150 beds, the construction of a new bus stand, and the provision of land for parking facilities.
