Shimla, August 12 – A delegation from the Kingdom of Bhutan, led by Tashi Pelden, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Royal Bhutanese Embassy, and Minister Counsellor Chimi Wangmo, met Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu here today to discuss bilateral relations. The Chief Minister noted that ties between India and Bhutan have always been warm and cordial.

He recalled that the two nations signed a Treaty of Friendship in 1949, which was renewed in 2007, and said that these relations continue to grow stronger. As a symbol of friendship on behalf of the people of Himachal Pradesh, the Chief Minister presented the Bhutan Department of Forests and Park Services with more than 5,000 Chilgoza (pine nut) saplings. He added that in October, under the JICA project, 50 kilograms of Chilgoza seeds collected by self-help groups would also be gifted to Bhutan.

The Chief Minister informed that Chilgoza trees grow in Kinnaur district and in the Pangi and Bharmour regions of Chamba district. He emphasised that Chilgoza seeds play a vital role in the livelihood of Kinnaur residents, fetching high market value. Rich in medicinal properties and antioxidants, these seeds are highly prized. He also offered Bhutan technical assistance for planting Chilgoza saplings.

Tashi Pelden expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister for the saplings, noting that this gesture would further strengthen ties of friendship. Additional Chief Secretary K.K. Pant, CM’s Secretary Rakesh Kanwar, and Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Sanjay Sood were also present on the occasion.
