PWD Negligence Triggers Massive Landslide in Khurahal Village, Threatens Farmers’ Land
Heavy landslide in Khurahal village
Mandi, August 9 – Negligence by the Public Works Department (PWD) has created a serious crisis for residents of Khurahal village in the Salapad Colony panchayat under Sundernagar subdivision. Nearly a year ago, during road-widening work, the department completed the cutting but failed to construct a retaining wall at the site.
Following the recent spell of heavy rain, the area has been experiencing continuous landslides, severely damaging the farmland of local farmers Ram Lal and Amar Singh. Large portions of their fertile land are being washed away due to soil erosion.
The landowners said they have repeatedly lodged verbal complaints with the department, requesting the construction of the retaining wall, but no concrete action has been taken to date. Villagers have warned that if the work does not begin soon, the damage could escalate further in the coming days.
