Chamiyana Hospital to Offer AIIMS-Standard Healthcare Services with Advanced Robotic Surgery Facility

The Atal Super Specialty Institute of Medical Sciences in Chamiyana, Shimla, is set to become Himachal Pradesh’s first healthcare facility to offer AIIMS-level medical services. In a landmark development, the hospital is preparing to launch a cutting-edge robotic surgery unit, positioning the state at the forefront of advanced medical care.
A state-of-the-art robotic surgery machine, valued at ₹29 crore, has already been installed at the institute. All preparations for its clinical launch have been completed. This marks a major milestone for healthcare in Himachal, introducing a highly advanced surgical technique that allows operations to be performed with exceptional precision and minimal invasion.
Robotic-assisted surgeries, controlled by specialist surgeons, significantly reduce the risk of infection and enable faster patient recovery. The use of this technology is expected to streamline surgical procedures and reduce patient wait times for operations.
A spokesperson for the Health Department said that as part of the state’s push to modernize healthcare services, the institute is also being equipped with ₹42 crore worth of advanced medical equipment. These include devices for departments such as urology, renal transplant, cardiac anaesthesia, gastrointestinal, plastic surgery, cardiothoracic and vascular surgery (CTVS), cardiology, pediatric surgery, and neurosurgery.
These departments will also undergo infrastructure and equipment upgrades to ensure they can deliver world-class medical services. The initiative reflects the state government’s commitment, under the leadership of Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, to revolutionize healthcare across Himachal.
The broader goal is to equip all government hospitals and medical colleges in the state with modern technologies, ensuring quality healthcare services are available closer to people’s homes.
