Mandi: Floodwaters Inundate Balh Valley as Suketi Khad Swells; Vehicles Submerged
Sundernagar, August 5:
Balh Valley in Mandi district has once again come under the grip of relentless heavy rainfall. Overnight downpours have caused the Suketi Khad, a major water stream in the region, to overflow—leading to flood-like conditions in nearby farmlands and residential areas.
The situation turned critical when floodwaters spilled onto the Mandi-Nerchowk National Highway, entering the parking lots of several automobile agencies. Dozens of vehicles were submerged, with damages estimated to run into several lakhs. Agency staff and owners are on-site, working with cranes to rescue the vehicles from the waterlogged premises. The highway is almost entirely submerged, severely disrupting traffic in the area.
The district administration has issued a warning, urging residents to exercise caution. The Meteorological Department has also issued an orange alert for the next 24 hours, predicting more heavy rain. Normal life has been thrown off balance, and residents are now looking to the administration for urgent relief and support.
