Bilaspur, August 4:
In a fresh case of consumer rights violation, unlabelled Kamdhenu bread is reportedly being sold openly at a shop in Bilaspur, raising questions about regulatory oversight. Despite clear legal provisions that prohibit the sale of any food product without an MRP or rate sticker, local vendors appear to be flouting the rules with impunity.

According to sources, a tea stall in Bilaspur was found selling bread without any printed MRP or sticker indicating its price. When contacted, an official from Kamdhenu acknowledged that stickers are usually affixed to the packaging, but admitted that in this instance, the omission might have occurred due to a technical or human error. The official assured that the issue would be investigated as a matter of priority.

Meanwhile, officials from the concerned regulatory department, when informed, verbally committed to taking action but have yet to initiate any concrete steps.

This is not the first such instance in Bilaspur. Similar cases of unlabelled product sales have surfaced in the past, but little progress has been made due to weak enforcement and limited departmental vigilance.

Consumer rights groups argue that timely and strict enforcement, coupled with clear warnings to retailers, could help curb such negligence. Under the Consumer Protection Act, the sale of goods without MRP labeling is a punishable offense. However, a lack of public awareness and lax oversight have allowed the problem to persist.

Food Safety Officer H. Thakur confirmed that a detailed investigation into the matter will be conducted.
