Mandi, August 4:
A tragic road accident occurred late Sunday night near Magrugala in the Seraj constituency of Mandi district, where an Alto car veered off the Janjehli–Chhatri road and fell nearly 300 metres into a deep gorge, resulting in the death of three young men and serious injuries to two others.

According to reports, the accident took place during the night, and the vehicle was discovered the following morning by local residents, who spotted the mangled remains of the car at the base of the gorge. All five occupants had been thrown out of the vehicle due to the force of the crash.

Local residents immediately alerted emergency services, including the 108 ambulance service and the Janjehli police station, and began rescue efforts on their own before officials arrived. By the time emergency responders reached the site, three of the occupants had already succumbed to their injuries. The two survivors were rushed to the Janjehli Hospital, one by private vehicle and the other by ambulance.

After receiving initial treatment, both injured individuals were referred in critical condition to Nerchowk Medical College for further care.

The police team from Janjehli took possession of the bodies for post-mortem, and preliminary investigations suggest that a road collapse may have caused the accident.

Superintendent of Police, Sakshi Verma, confirmed the incident and said a thorough investigation is underway.

The deceased have been identified as:

  • Devdutt (37), son of late Sangat Ram

  • Yashpal (38), son of Ganga Ram

  • Mangal Chand (39), son of Dhan Singh

The injured are:

  • Ludar Singh (34), son of Inder Singh

  • Guman Singh (32), the car driver, son of Prem Singh
