Shimla, July 25:
A 27-year-old woman died just a day after delivering a baby at Shimla’s renowned Kamla Nehru Hospital (KNH), triggering allegations of negligence by the hospital staff. The deceased has been identified as Archana Sharma (27), a resident of Garhawag village. The family accused the hospital administration of serious lapses and created an uproar within the hospital premises following the incident.

According to the family, Archana gave birth to a healthy baby boy around 11:30 AM on Thursday. This was her second delivery—she is also survived by a four-year-old daughter, now left motherless. Everything initially appeared normal, but things took a tragic turn the next morning.

The family claims that around 8:30 AM on Friday, a nurse came to shift Archana from her ward to another room and asked her to walk on her own. Despite clearly stating that she was feeling unwell and unable to walk, Archana was allegedly pressured to move. As soon as she got off the bed, she collapsed and began bleeding profusely. Within just five minutes, she passed away.

The relatives further alleged that Archana had undergone a cesarean delivery, and was in no condition to walk. They believe that forcing her to move led directly to her untimely death.

Accusing the hospital of gross negligence, the family said that timely and appropriate medical attention could have saved her life. They have demanded strict action against the attending doctors and nurse involved.

In contrast, the hospital administration has claimed that something had lodged in her food pipe, which may have led to her death. An autopsy has been initiated, and the exact cause of death will be confirmed after the postmortem report is released.
