Mandi, July 24:
A devastating road accident took place on Thursday morning near Tarangla in the Maseran area of Sarkaghat subdivision. An HRTC (Himachal Road Transport Corporation) bus veered off the road and plunged into nearby fields, reportedly carrying 20 to 25 passengers at the time.

Initially, a 16-year-old boy was reported dead on the spot, while two women were critically injured. However, as the day progressed, the death toll rose to five, including three women and two men, all of whom succumbed to their injuries during treatment.

Upon receiving the information, a team from Sarkaghat Police Station, along with DSP Sanjeev Gautam, rushed to the scene. Local villagers were quick to initiate rescue efforts. The injured were transported to Sarkaghat Civil Hospital with the help of the 108 ambulance service. Two critically injured women have since been referred to a higher medical facility for further treatment, while the remaining injured are undergoing care at the civil hospital.

Slippery Road Likely Caused the Crash

Though the exact cause of the accident is still under investigation, preliminary findings suggest that the bus lost control on a sharp bend, likely due to slippery roads caused by recent rainfall. According to eyewitnesses, roads in the region are narrow and prone to slick conditions, making driving particularly dangerous.

Some passengers on board said they felt a sudden jolt, after which the bus skidded off the road and hurtled downward. Several passengers were thrown out of the vehicle due to the impact.

The administration has launched a probe into the incident and ordered a review of road conditions in the area to prevent future mishaps. Officials have also stressed the importance of maintenance and caution on such treacherous routes.

This tragic incident has cast a shadow of mourning across the region. Locals continue to assist with relief operations at the site.
