Shimla, July 19:
The Himachal Pradesh government is set to introduce robotic surgery services in the state and will soon begin the recruitment process for specialist robotic surgeons. This move aims to provide patients with advanced, high-quality treatment at government healthcare institutions. Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu shared this development while chairing a review meeting of the Health Department on Friday evening.

A proposal outlining recruitment rules for these specialists will soon be submitted to the State Cabinet for approval. In addition to performing surgeries, these expert doctors will also train other medical professionals in robotic surgical techniques, helping to build a skilled team of specialists within the state.

The Chief Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to delivering quality healthcare services through public health institutions. He noted that all government medical colleges and health facilities in the state are being equipped with modern technologies and advanced medical infrastructure.

He announced that robotic surgery services will soon be launched at the Atal Institute of Medical Super Speciality, Chamiyana, offering facilities on par with AIIMS Delhi. A robotic surgical system will also be installed shortly at Dr. Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College, Tanda.

The Chief Minister further directed the Health Department to initiate the process of installing robotic surgical machines at Hamirpur Medical College and Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla. He emphasized the need to fill vacant posts without delay to strengthen the state’s healthcare services.

He added that the Directorate of Medical Education will soon recruit 100 new medical officers, and 50 additional nurses will be appointed at the Chamiyana institute. Recruitment is also underway for paramedical staff, technical personnel, and other support staff to bolster the state’s healthcare infrastructure.

In a major decision to support healthcare workers, the government has increased the monthly honorarium of operation theatre assistants from ₹17,820 to ₹25,000, and that of radiographers and X-ray technicians from ₹13,100 to ₹25,000.

CM Sukhu also announced that, for the first time in 23 years, the state government has decided to increase the intake capacity of major paramedical courses to address the shortage of skilled personnel.

At IGMC Shimla, the number of seats in BSc Medical Laboratory Technology, BSc Radiology & Imaging, and BSc Anaesthesia & OT Technology courses has been raised from 10 to 50. Similarly, at Tanda Medical College, intake for the same courses has been increased from 18 to 50 seats each. This expansion will allow local youth to access professional training within the state itself.

The meeting was attended by Health Minister Dr. (Col.) Dhani Ram Shandil, Health Secretary M. Sudha Devi, Special Secretary Dr. Ashwani Kumar Sharma, and other senior officials.
