AIPSO to Launch Mass Campaign in Himachal Against U.S. Blockade on Cuba
Shimla, July 17:
The Himachal Pradesh unit of the All India Peace and Solidarity Organisation (AIPSO) concluded its state-level convention in Shimla on Thursday. The event saw the participation of a large number of members, including conveners Vijender Mehra, Kushal Bhardwaj, Dr. Kashmir Thakur, and Rajendra Chauhan.
During the convention, speakers highlighted that Cuba—a global leader in education, healthcare, and tourism, with the highest number of doctors per capita—has been enduring a prolonged economic blockade imposed by the United States. Despite these challenges, Cuba continued to serve humanity by sending its doctors across the world during the COVID-19 pandemic. In defense of Cuba’s socialist model and to oppose the U.S. blockade, AIPSO announced plans to launch a widespread public awareness campaign in Himachal Pradesh.
The state conveners of AIPSO shared that the campaign will include distribution of informative leaflets, publication of a special booklet, and a fundraising drive to support Cuba economically. In addition, conventions will be held at district and block levels, drawing participation from hundreds of people.
On August 13, to mark the birth anniversary of Fidel Castro, the iconic leader of the Cuban Revolution, solidarity events and public demonstrations will be organized across the state. These programs aim to raise awareness about the anti-people policies of U.S. imperialism, particularly those targeting farmers, workers, education, and the general public.
The campaign will also shed light on the Modi government’s alignment with U.S. interests and its attempts to dilute India’s constitutional commitment to socialism by undermining its mention in the Preamble.
As part of the resolutions passed at the convention, AIPSO has decided to establish Cuba Solidarity Committees at both district and block levels to strengthen support for Cuba across the state.
