Shimla, 17 July

Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi chaired a meeting of the Cabinet Sub-Committee on Disaster Management and Rehabilitation. The meeting focused on reviewing relief and rehabilitation efforts in the wake of recent cloudbursts and floods across the state. The committee also discussed restoration of blocked roads, reconstruction of damaged bridges, and repair of water supply schemes—key steps toward rebuilding critical infrastructure in the affected areas.

The sub-committee approved the establishment of an Early Warning System to enhance disaster preparedness. This system will enable real-time weather monitoring, forecasting, and alerts, helping authorities take timely precautionary measures. Effective implementation of this system is expected to significantly reduce loss of life and property during natural disasters.

To further expedite relief and rescue operations, the committee also decided to hire helicopters when necessary, ensuring prompt access to affected regions.

In a separate meeting also chaired by Jagat Singh Negi, the sub-committee discussed issues related to land regularization for small and marginal farmers. It was further decided that the state government will appeal to the Supreme Court seeking exemptions for Himachal Pradesh under the Forest Conservation Act (FCA).

The meeting was attended by Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh, Urban and Town Planning Minister Rajesh Dharmani, Additional Chief Secretary (Revenue) Kamlesh Kumar Pant, Special Secretary (Revenue-Disaster) D.C. Rana, and other senior officials.
