Reckong Peo, July 16: Naik Pushpender Negi (29), a resident of Thangrang Panchayat in Sangla Tehsil of Kinnaur district, Himachal Pradesh, was martyred while on duty in Assam. He was serving in the 19 Dogra Regiment. According to reports, he lost his life after being struck by falling tree branches during strong winds.

Pushpendra leaves behind his father Mahendra Negi, mother Sarla Devi, wife Kirti Negi, and six-year-old son Etik. News of his martyrdom has cast a shadow of grief over Thangrang Panchayat and the entire Kinnaur district. His family is devastated by the loss.

According to military officials, his mortal remains were scheduled to be transported from Assam to Delhi, then to Chandigarh, and finally to his native village by army vehicle, where he will be laid to rest with full military honors. However, as of now, the body has not yet reached Chandigarh.

The army had initially informed the family that the body would be flown from Assam to Delhi at 9 a.m. on Monday and reach Kinnaur by Tuesday. However, bad weather has caused delays. The remains are to be transported by helicopter from Assam, but poor weather conditions are hindering the process. The final rites are now expected to take place on Tuesday.
