Mandi, July 14:
Former Union Minister and Hamirpur MP Anurag Thakur has assured that the matter of providing forest land to families affected by recent disasters in Himachal Pradesh will be strongly pursued with the Central Government. Speaking to the media after meeting affected residents in Bagasyad under the Seraj Assembly constituency, Thakur emphasized that humanitarian concerns would always take precedence over politics.

He was accompanied by former Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition Jai Ram Thakur, who briefed him on the scale of destruction in the area. Anurag Thakur said, “Whenever it comes to the interests of disaster-hit people, decisions should rise above politics. Those who have lost their homes must be provided with land and compensation by the state government at the earliest, so they can begin rebuilding their lives. The central government has extended every possible support in the past and will continue to do so.”

Praise for Jai Ram Thakur’s Relief Efforts

He praised Jai Ram Thakur for his active and compassionate response during the crisis, saying, “He reached remote areas and ensured timely help for affected families.” He also noted that the BJP distributed essential supplies, including ration kits, kitchen items, bedding, and more.

Through the Sansad Mobile Seva, free health check-ups were conducted for 2,000 people, along with free medicines. Relief items such as sanitary pads and 1,000 tarpaulins were also distributed. On Sunday, the team provided 1,000 school bags, 2,000 pencils, 5,000 biscuit packets, 5,000 protein packs, notebooks, and other essential items to children in the area.

Stern Warning to NHAI Officials

During the visit, Anurag Thakur also issued a stern warning to NHAI officials. Referring to ongoing work in the Dharampur region of Mandi, he criticized the lapses and mismanagement observed. “Wherever negligence is found, it will be dealt with seriously,” he said, adding, “Road construction should serve the public—not cause them distress.”

Thakur’s visit highlighted both the need for rapid rehabilitation and continued accountability in infrastructure projects, reinforcing the BJP’s stance on proactive disaster response and citizen welfare.
