Shimla, July 12:
In preparation for a high-level meeting led by Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu regarding the upcoming Bulk Drug Park in Una district, the state government has successfully conducted pre-engagement meetings with leading pharmaceutical companies and API manufacturers in Mumbai and Hyderabad. These sessions generated significant interest in the proposed project, with top pharma players expressing strong intent to invest.

API (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient) manufacturers—those who produce the core chemicals used in drug formulation—were among the key participants.

The meetings were chaired by Additional Chief Secretary (Industries) R.D. Nazeem, on the Chief Minister’s directive. He was joined by Director of Industries Dr. Yunus, Additional Director Tilak Raj Sharma, and other senior officials. Over 150 representatives from major pharma and infrastructure firms took part, including Dr. Reddy’s Labs, Sun Pharma, Abbott, Aurobindo Pharma, Alkem Labs, and Mankind Pharma. Prominent industry bodies like BDMA, IDMA, Pharmexcil, and TACPI also attended.

Project Highlights:

The proposed Bulk Drug Park will span 1,405 acres in Haroli tehsil of Una and is expected to cater not only to Himachal’s needs but also to those of Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir.

A detailed presentation from the state government highlighted the park’s planned state-of-the-art common facilities, including:

  • Zero Liquid Discharge system

  • Power generation units

  • Hazardous waste management

  • Quality control laboratories

  • Center of Excellence

The current annual demand for APIs in the region stands at nearly ₹38,000 crore, reinforcing the project’s strategic significance.

During the discussions, investors raised concerns regarding operational and utility charges, requesting greater transparency and stability. Additional Chief Secretary Nazeem assured them that all feedback is being taken seriously, and efforts are underway to build a robust, affordable, and reliable infrastructure.

Cement Industry Talks:

In a parallel development, the state’s Industries Department also held a consultative meeting with major cement companies to discuss the upcoming auction of two limestone blocks, a vital mineral resource for the sector. Advisory support for the auction will be provided by SBI and CAPS, and tender notifications are expected shortly.

Companies like Ultratech, Adani, and Nuvoco Vistas participated in the discussion. These initiatives are expected to accelerate Greenfield and Brownfield cement projects in the state while generating local employment opportunities.

The Una Bulk Drug Park is seen as a landmark initiative that could earn Himachal Pradesh national recognition in the pharmaceutical sector.
