Shimla, July 12 – In a heartfelt gesture of solidarity, over two lakh pensioners across Himachal Pradesh have pledged to donate one day’s basic pension to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to support those affected by the recent natural calamities in the state.

This announcement was made by the newly elected State President of the Himachal Pradesh Pensioners’ Welfare Association, Atmaram Sharma, during a press conference held in Shimla. He stated that the decision was finalized during a recent meeting of the Association’s delegation with Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.

Sharma emphasized that the appeal for contribution has been extended to all registered members—around 2 lakh pensioners across the state. During the meeting with the Chief Minister, the Association also submitted a charter of demands highlighting several key issues concerning pensioners. These include:

  • Immediate formation of a Joint Consultative Committee (JCC) for pensioners

  • Settlement of pending leave encashment, gratuity, and commutation dues for employees who retired between November 1, 2016, and January 31, 2022

  • Special budget allocation for reimbursement of medical bills

  • Early payment of pending arrears from the last Pay Commission

  • Prompt issuance of the 3% Dearness Allowance (DA) notification

  • Release of the remaining 10% DA in installments and settlement of 42 months’ pending DA arrears

Atmaram Sharma also informed that the state committee elections of the Pensioners’ Welfare Association were recently conducted successfully, with representatives from across Himachal Pradesh electing 10 new office bearers.

He clarified that a parallel organization currently operating in the state does not hold recognition as per the Association’s constitutional guidelines.
