Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu Strongly Advocates for Himachal’s Interests at Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Conference
Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu forcefully advocated for Himachal Pradesh’s interests during the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Conference, highlighting the state’s unique contributions and pressing needs.
He emphasized that many of the rivers flowing through Punjab and Haryana originate in Himachal. “When it comes to hydropower, Himachal is a wealth-generating state—we deserve our rightful share of benefits,” he asserted.
He further pointed out that the mountains of Himachal act as the lungs of North India, providing clean air to the region. “With 28% of the state’s area under forest cover, this ecological service must also be acknowledged and compensated appropriately,” he said.
Referring to the recent political developments in the state, the Chief Minister stated that Himachal has set an example for the entire country by strictly implementing the anti-defection law against legislators who violated the party whip.
He also called for dedicated policies for hill states, stating, “The development of hilly regions cannot be ensured by simply clubbing them with the plains. Mountain states require separate, tailored strategies.”
During the conference, the Chief Minister also highlighted several of the state government’s key welfare initiatives, underlining their impact and the government’s commitment to inclusive development.
