Shimla, 22 June:
Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla today inaugurated a two-day “Meritorious Student Felicitation” organised by the Himachal Shiksha Samiti at Saraswati Vidya Mandir (SVM), Shimla. The ceremony brought together 154 top-performing students from 48 schools—each an achiever in the Himachal Pradesh Board’s Class 10 and Class 12 examinations. Present and former pupils who have excelled academically were recognised for their accomplishments.
In his address, the Governor noted that the awards not only motivate high-performing students but also signal to society that genuine education is rooted in hard work, discipline, values, culture and a spirit of service. “These honours are a testament to your determination, self-discipline and confidence,” he told the awardees.
Stressing the need for socially conscious youth, the Governor said the nation requires a generation that strives for personal excellence while guiding society forward. He urged students to place national interest, culture and community above all else, and to view ambition as more than a path to employment—seeing it instead as a commitment to nation-building. “Success gains meaning only when linked to service,” he added. “Knowledge breeds humility, and education is complete when one becomes self-reliant and dedicates life to the nation with pride.”
Governor Shukla expressed satisfaction with Vidya Bharati’s work, noting that 190 Saraswati Vidya Mandirs—including in remote areas such as Killar and Dodra Kwar—serve some 26,000 students under 2,000 teachers across the state. He recalled that the first Shishu Mandir was founded in Gorakhpur and praised the organisation’s focus on Indian values and moral education, which he said helps steer children away from drug abuse. The Governor also toured a student exhibition, showing keen interest in the models on display.
Addressing the gathering, Vidya Bharati’s All-India General Secretary Deshraj Sharma said the organisation’s core mission is the welfare of humanity through education rooted in Indian culture, and reaffirmed its commitment to successfully implementing the National Education Policy. He added that many Vidya Bharati alumni now serve the country in prestigious roles. Himachal Shiksha Samiti President Mohan Kesta welcomed the Governor and outlined the event’s programme.
Among those present were Vidya Bharati Regional Secretary Vijay Nadda, Himachal Shiksha Samiti General Secretary Suresh Kapil, and other dignitaries.
