The Himachal Pradesh Government has appointed Vidya Negi from Kullu district as the new Chairperson of the State Commission for Women. The Department of Social Justice and Empowerment issued the official notification on Friday. The post had remained vacant for the past two and a half years.
Vidya Negi hails from the village of Shanag, post office Bahang, in the Manali tehsil of Kullu district. According to the notification, her appointment is effective immediately and will be for a term of three years. The appointment has been made under Section 3 of the Himachal Pradesh State Commission for Women Act, 1996, and the service rules notified in 1999. The terms and conditions of her appointment will be in accordance with the existing rules.
The State Commission for Women plays a vital role in addressing issues related to women, offering recommendations to the government, and conducting inquiries into complaints and concerns involving women’s rights.
Vidya Negi is currently serving as the National Coordinator of the All India Mahila Congress and has held various positions within the Congress party. Her appointment is expected to bring new momentum to the Commission’s efforts in advocating for women’s welfare and empowerment in the state.
