Grand Inauguration of State-Level Shoolini Fair in Solan; CM Sukhu Joins the Traditional Procession

Solan, June 20:
The three-day state-level Shoolini Fair began with great fervor and traditional splendor in Solan on Friday. The festivities commenced with a grand and time-honored procession of Goddess Shoolini, attracting a large gathering of devotees. The vibrant procession made its way through the town and concluded at the Ganj Bazar temple of Goddess Durga—considered the elder sister of Goddess Shoolini—where religious ceremonies and cultural events will be held over the next three days.

On the occasion, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu paid obeisance at the shrine of Goddess Shoolini and prayed for the well-being and prosperity of the people of Himachal Pradesh. Addressing the devotees in the temple courtyard, the Chief Minister remarked that the unwavering faith of the people of Solan in Goddess Shoolini makes this fair particularly special. He emphasized that the event holds religious, cultural, and social significance alike.

Highlighting the selfless service offered by devotees through community feasts (bhandaras) across the city, CM Sukhu said it reflected the essence of Himachali folk culture and collective spirit. During the event, Solan Deputy Commissioner Manmohan Sharma presented the Chief Minister with a statue of Goddess Shoolini as a token of reverence.

The city came alive with devotional energy during the procession. Decorated chariots, the rhythmic beats of traditional drums, folk performers in colorful attire, and thousands of devotees filled the streets, creating a spectacle of faith and festivity.

The Shoolini Fair is celebrated annually in the Hindu month of Ashadha to honor Solan’s presiding deity, Goddess Shoolini. Alongside religious rituals, the fair also features cultural performances, traditional tableaux, and folk dances. Authorities have made comprehensive arrangements to ensure smooth conduct of the event and the safety and convenience of all attendees.
