Himachal’s Daughter Sakshi Heads to Japan, Inspired by Her Mother to Create Innovative “Neck Fan”

Una, 19 June – Sakshi Bhardwaj, a talented student from Himachal Pradesh, has earned international recognition through her creativity, empathy, and scientific thinking. A Class 11 Arts student at Government Senior Secondary School, Jadla Koyari (Una district), Sakshi has been selected to represent India in Japan under the prestigious Sakura Exchange Program in Science, sponsored by the Government of Japan. The program aims to nurture innovation and scientific curiosity among youth on a global platform.
Sakshi’s innovation was inspired by her mother’s everyday struggles. Watching her mother battle heat and exhaustion while doing household chores during summer, Sakshi designed a versatile neck fan—a wearable, energy-efficient, and eco-friendly device that offers relief from the heat. Compact and easy to use, the fan has practical applications for people from all walks of life.
She will first participate in a workshop at the Directorate of Science and Technology in New Delhi on 13 June, and then depart for Japan on 14 June. It is a matter of great pride that only 22 students from across India have been selected for the program—and Sakshi is the only one from Himachal Pradesh. She will be part of the Indian delegation led by state nodal officer Dr. Ranjana Kumari.
Sakshi’s achievement has brought pride not only to Una but to the entire state. Her teachers, family, and school authorities have extended their heartfelt congratulations and expressed confidence that she will continue to make remarkable strides in the fields of science and innovation.
