Shimla, 19 June – In a significant relief for elderly pensioners, the Himachal Pradesh government has announced that pensioners and family pensioners aged 70 years or above will receive 50% of their pending pension arrears in June 2025.

As per the directive issued by the state’s Finance (Pension) Department, this payment will apply to pensioners who retired before 2016. The order refers to earlier instructions issued on 17 September 2022, 13 March 2024, 28 August 2024, and 19 October 2024. It states that 30% of the arrears have already been disbursed, and with the upcoming 50% payment, a total of 70% of the arrears will have been cleared.

The Finance Department has also instructed all pension disbursing authorities and public sector banks to ensure that any excess payments made earlier to a pensioner are adjusted before releasing the new installment. All administrative departments, divisional commissioners, and pension disbursing agencies have been directed to ensure timely and accurate payment to eligible beneficiaries.

The order was issued on Thursday by Principal Secretary (Finance) Devesh Kumar.
