Shimla, June 18:
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued yellow and orange alerts for several districts of Himachal Pradesh in view of heavy rainfall expected over the next four days—from June 20 to 23. Widespread showers are likely across many parts of the state, and the monsoon is also expected to set in earlier than anticipated.

Earlier, the monsoon was predicted to arrive in Himachal by June 25, but the IMD now expects it to become active around June 22.

District-Wise Forecast:

  • June 20: Heavy rain is likely in Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Shimla, and Solan. A yellow alert has been issued for these districts.

  • June 21: Orange alert for Una and Sirmaur, indicating the possibility of intense rainfall. Yellow alerts remain in place for Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Kangra, Mandi, Shimla, and Solan.

  • June 22: Very heavy rain likely in Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Shimla, and Sirmaur, prompting an orange alert. Kangra, Mandi, and Solan will remain under a yellow alert.

  • June 23: The weather is expected to remain unstable with the possibility of more heavy rain. Alerts will remain active for several districts.

  • June 24: No formal warnings have been issued, though cloudy and unsettled weather may persist.

Landslide and Waterlogging Risks

The IMD has cautioned about the possibility of landslides in hilly and vulnerable regions and waterlogging in low-lying areas. Travelers, especially those using mountain roads, are advised to remain cautious and check weather updates regularly.

Rainfall in the Past 24 Hours

In the last 24 hours, Sundernagar (Mandi) recorded the highest rainfall at 5 cm. Bhuntar and Gohar received 3 cm, while other areas recorded between 1 to 2 cm. Light showers were also reported in parts of Shimla, Solan, Kullu, Kangra, Hamirpur, Bilaspur, and Lahaul-Spiti. Cloudy skies were observed across most regions, with light morning rain in Shimla on Wednesday.

The administration and local authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have urged residents to stay updated and take necessary precautions during this period of potential extreme weather.
