Shimla, June 15:
The statue of former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister late Raja Virbhadra Singh will now be unveiled on July 15, instead of the previously scheduled date of June 23. The change was made keeping in mind the availability of senior Congress leaders. This announcement was made by Public Works Minister and President of the Raja Virbhadra Singh Foundation, Vikramaditya Singh, during a press conference held at Peterhof in Shimla on Sunday.

Vikramaditya Singh informed that the statue, which has been installed at the historic Ridge Ground in Shimla, is now complete and has arrived in the city. The unveiling ceremony on July 15 will witness the presence of former Congress President Sonia Gandhi, party President Mallikarjun Kharge, General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and Rajni Patil, the AICC in-charge for Himachal Pradesh, along with several other senior leaders.

He said that he had personally visited Delhi to invite these leaders for the event. However, due to scheduling constraints, Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi were unavailable on June 23, prompting the rescheduling to July 15.

In the spirit of inclusivity, leaders from opposition parties have also been invited to attend the ceremony, and many have expressed their willingness to participate. The event will also be attended by Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, state cabinet ministers, and MLAs.

Earlier in the day, Vikramaditya Singh chaired a meeting of the Raja Virbhadra Singh Foundation at Peterhof to review preparations for the unveiling. It was decided during the meeting that the Foundation will organize one meeting annually in each of the state’s four Lok Sabha constituencies. He emphasized that the Foundation is committed to working for the welfare of the poor and underprivileged.

The Foundation welcomed the state government’s decision to install the statue, calling it a historic and meaningful tribute. Vikramaditya Singh noted that Raja Virbhadra Singh was not just a towering figure in Himachal, but a respected leader in national politics as well. “Honoring his legacy is the collective responsibility of society,” he said.

He also informed that a memorial ceremony marking the fourth death anniversary (Chaturvarshik Shradh) of Raja Virbhadra Singh will be held on June 24 at his ancestral home in Rampur Bushahr. He urged the people of Himachal to join the family in paying tribute on this solemn occasion.
