Three-Day Art Festival Begins at Bantony Castle, Shimla; Artists from Across India Participate
Three-day Art Festival
Shimla, June 15:
The three-day Shimla Art Festival commenced on Saturday at the historic Bantony Castle, organized by the State Museum. The event has brought together renowned artists from across the country, along with students from various schools in Shimla. The theme of the festival is “The Cultural Heritage and Natural Beauty of Himachal Pradesh.”
Artists are showcasing the richness of Himachal’s culture, scenic landscapes, and historical legacy through live paintings, which have become a major attraction for visitors.
Dr. Hari Chauhan, Chairperson of the State Museum, highlighted that the museum plays a vital role in preserving cultural heritage. He emphasized that such festivals can also help steer young people away from social evils like substance abuse by providing them with a creative and constructive outlet. “This platform gives children a chance to express themselves creatively and focus on art in a stress-free environment,” he said. Around 400 participants are expected to take part in the festival.
Artists from different parts of the country participating in the event noted that Shimla offers a highly inspiring environment for art. The clean surroundings, majestic hills, and tranquil atmosphere encourage creative expression. “Even in this age of AI, what an artist visualizes and translates into a painting cannot be replicated by any machine. That remains the unique power of human imagination,” one of the artists remarked.
Over the next three days, school students will continue to participate and receive painting workshops and guidance. Students from institutions such as Jawaharlal Nehru Fine Arts College, the Department of Pahari Miniature Painting, and the Department of Visual Arts, Himachal Pradesh University, are also actively contributing to the event.
