Former Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition, Jai Ram Thakur, has said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has carved out a unique identity for India on the global stage during his 11-year tenure. He noted that India, which ranked 11th in the world economy just over a decade ago, now proudly stands as the fourth-largest economy globally.
Thakur highlighted that Prime Minister Modi’s deep commitment to uplifting the poor and addressing the needs of all sections of society has gained recognition around the world. “Be it the abrogation of Article 370, the push for Uniform Civil Code (UCC), the abolition of triple talaq, or the historic implementation of women’s reservation—these bold decisions have only been made possible under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership,” he said. He also extended congratulations to the Prime Minister on behalf of the people of Himachal Pradesh for beginning a third consecutive term in office—an unprecedented feat in the country’s political history.
Reflecting on matters of national security, Thakur said, “Over the past 11 years, it is Prime Minister Modi who has shown the courage to respond to our adversaries in their own language.” He pointed to India’s decisive responses to terrorism, citing the surgical strikes after the Uri attack and the airstrikes following the Pulwama attack. He also referred to the killing of terror leaders in response to cowardly incidents like the one in Pahalgam, describing it as a blow Pakistan would not easily forget.
Thakur concluded by saying that if the nation today feels more secure and confident, it is due to the strong and decisive leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
