Shimla, June 9:
A bomb threat email sent to the Himachal Pradesh High Court on Monday afternoon triggered panic and placed security forces in Shimla on high alert. The email claimed that a suicide bomber was carrying an IED into the High Court premises. Authorities responded swiftly, evacuating the entire complex and launching a thorough four-hour search operation.

The alarming email was received on the official High Court email account around 1 PM. Given the gravity of the threat, DIG South Range Anjum Ara led an immediate response involving the Bomb Disposal Squad, Quick Reaction Team (QRT), Dog Squad, and Special Forces. The High Court building was sealed off after safely evacuating all judges, lawyers, staff, and visitors.

Security personnel meticulously combed through every corner of the court premises — including rooms, corridors, entry and exit points — for suspicious items or explosives. The search lasted nearly four hours but concluded without discovering any threat or dangerous material.

Shimla’s Acting Superintendent of Police, Gaurav Singh, confirmed that the threat appears to have been a hoax, likely sent by a mischief-maker. However, he emphasized that the police treated the matter with utmost seriousness and thoroughly investigated every potential risk. He added that the situation is now fully under control, and the process of resuming normal operations at the High Court has begun.

Police have urged the public to remain calm and not fall prey to rumors or panic, while staying alert. Citizens have been advised to immediately report any suspicious object, person, or activity to the nearest police station.

This incident is not the first of its kind. The Himachal State Secretariat in Shimla has previously received similar threats twice — once via an email sent to the Chief Secretary’s office, and another to the CID. In both cases, nothing suspicious was found during the investigation. Other district secretariats have also been targeted with fake threats in the past.

Authorities are now conducting a cyber investigation to trace the origin, sender, and motive behind the latest email. Security agencies remain vigilant and committed to preventing such incidents in the future.
