Una, June 7:
Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Saturday inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for various development projects worth ₹75.10 crore in the Gagret Assembly constituency of Una district. Addressing a public gathering at Daulatpur Chowk, he reiterated the state government’s commitment to making Himachal Pradesh self-reliant and economically strong.

The Chief Minister criticized the previous BJP government, accusing it of derailing the state’s economy through poor governance and unplanned decisions. He alleged that over 600 schools and health institutions were opened without budgetary provision and claimed that public assets worth ₹5,000 crore were mismanaged. In contrast, the present government, he said, is working towards self-sufficiency through people’s participation.

CM Sukhu highlighted that Una has become the first solar-powered district in the state, with operational plants generating 47 megawatts of electricity. He added that an additional ₹500 crore is being invested in projects with a combined capacity of 163 megawatts. He also emphasized the employment potential of the upcoming Bulk Drug Park in Haroli, which is set to boost industrial growth in the region.

Among the major projects for which foundation stones were laid under PMGSY were a 400-meter bridge over the Swan River, bridges and link roads in Oyal, Siryian, Piplu, Andor, and others. New infrastructure includes the Daulatpur Degree College building and a workshop at the Ambota Polytechnic College.

Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, also present at the event, informed that water supply projects worth ₹170 crore are currently underway in the Gagret constituency. He criticized the central government for slashing funds for such initiatives, stating that the state is strongly asserting its rights.

Local MLA Rakesh Kalia expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister and submitted several demands, including additional budget for a hospital building, land acquisition for a 33kV power station, and district-level recognition for the Shivbari Fair.

The event was also attended by Chintpurni MLA Sudarshan Babloo, Advocate General Anup Rattan, SC Commission Chairman Kuldeep Kumar, and other dignitaries.
