Shimla, June 7:
During his visit to Himachal Pradesh, Vice President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar on Friday afternoon made a special stop at Dado Deoria village in Pachhad subdivision of Sirmaur district. The village is the in-laws’ home of former Chief Justice of India, Justice T.S. Thakur. The Vice President met with the former CJI and spent some time in warm and cordial conversation.

The meeting was marked by genuine camaraderie and mutual respect. Owing to a longstanding bond with Justice Thakur, Vice President Dhankhar made a personal visit to enquire about the wellbeing of the family. Upon his arrival, senior Congress leader Surender Sethi extended a warm welcome to the Vice President, as local residents also gathered to witness the occasion.

Earlier in the day, the Vice President had participated in an event at Nauni University and then travelled by road to Sirmaur. As soon as his convoy entered the Naurag region, security was taken over by a special administrative and police team. Adequate security arrangements had been made in the village as well. After spending some time in Dado Deoria, the Vice President proceeded back to Shimla. This visit marks the first time a sitting Vice President of India has toured this part of Sirmaur.

Justice T.S. Thakur married Amita Thakur, daughter of the late Chatar Singh and Ratna Panwar, in 1978. Chatar Singh had retired as Director of the Information and Public Relations Department of Himachal Pradesh.

Justice T.S. Thakur, former Chief Justice of India, is widely admired for his humility and simplicity. In an era when public office often comes with elaborate security and protocol, Justice Thakur is known to travel and stay in remote Himachali villages without any fanfare. He neither demands special protection nor waits for ceremonial arrangements—an example of dignity rooted in modesty.
