40 Grams of Heroin Seized from Baleno Car in Una; Two Arrested
Una, June 7:
In a significant breakthrough, Una police have arrested two individuals and recovered approximately 40 grams of heroin (chitta) during a routine patrol in the Chintpurni police station area. Acting on a tip-off, the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) team intercepted a Baleno car near Kinnu and made the recovery during a search operation.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Kabir Thakur, originally from Thakurdwara, Palampur and currently residing in Ballabhgarh, Haryana, and Ashish Kumar from Bindravan, Palampur in Kangra district. A case under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act has been registered against them, and an investigation is underway.
According to the police, late Friday night they received specific information that a suspicious vehicle carrying narcotics was travelling from Hoshiarpur towards Palampur via Bharwain and Dehra. Acting swiftly, the police set up a checkpoint near Kinnu and stopped the suspect vehicle.
Upon interrogation, the two occupants of the car appeared nervous. A thorough search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a transparent plastic packet hidden inside the dashboard, containing around 40 grams of heroin. Both men were immediately taken into custody.
Superintendent of Police Amit Yadav confirmed the arrests and reiterated that the police have intensified their crackdown on drug trafficking across the district. “This is part of our ongoing drive to curb the menace of narcotics. A case has been registered and further legal action is being taken,” he said.
