Shimla, June 1:
Leader of the Opposition Jai Ram Thakur launched a scathing attack on the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu government over Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Kumar Gandhi’s decision to file a Letter Patent Appeal (LPA) in the Vimal Negi case. Thakur alleged that while the Chief Minister publicly welcomed a CBI probe and assured full cooperation, his administration was simultaneously challenging the High Court’s order through the SP.

Addressing a press conference in Shimla, Thakur said, “It appears SP Sanjeev Gandhi is the one actually running the state, not the Chief Minister. The SP filed the LPA only after taking legal advice from the Advocate General and with full backing from the government.”

He further claimed the state government is rattled by the CBI investigation, which he believes could expose several officials. “As the layers unfold, more names may come under the CBI scanner. That’s why, under political pressure, the SP has gone to court against the High Court’s directive,” he said.

Thakur alleged a constitutional breakdown in Himachal Pradesh, pointing out that ministers, MLAs—even the Deputy Chief Minister—no longer heed the Chief Minister. “In such a situation, the Chief Minister has lost the moral right to remain in office and should resign on ethical grounds,” he said.

Thakur also accused SP Gandhi—who, he noted, often claims to be an upright officer—of submitting a false affidavit in court. “The High Court has now sought a reply within three weeks and has hinted at action against the SP,” Thakur added.

The political temperature in the state continues to rise as the Vimal Negi case unfolds, with both the opposition and the judiciary watching the government’s moves closely.
