Shimla, June 2:
Lance Naik Manish Thakur, a 27-year-old soldier from Baraban village in the Nahan sub-division of Sirmaur district, Himachal Pradesh, has laid down his life in the line of duty while serving in Sikkim. His untimely martyrdom has plunged the entire region into mourning.

The northeastern state of Sikkim is currently grappling with relentless rainfall, flash floods, and landslides, creating extremely challenging conditions for those on the ground. While official details are yet to be confirmed, it is believed that Lance Naik Thakur was involved in disaster relief and surveillance operations when he made the ultimate sacrifice.

Born on January 15, 1998, Manish joined the Indian Army in 2016 and served the nation with unwavering dedication for over eight years. He is survived by his wife Tanu Devi, mother Kiran Bala, and father Joginder Singh. The family, though shattered by grief, stands tall with pride in their son’s supreme sacrifice.

As news of his martyrdom reached the village, a deep sense of sorrow descended across the community. Eyes welled up with tears, but hearts swelled with pride for the brave son of the soil.

His mortal remains are expected to arrive soon at his native village, where he will be laid to rest with full military honors. A large gathering of local residents, army personnel, and administration officials is expected to pay their final respects.

Confirming the news, Major (Retd) Deepak Dhawan, Deputy Director of the Sainik Welfare Board, stated that the local administration has been informed and further details regarding the arrival of the body are likely to be clear by noon.

Lance Naik Manish Thakur’s sacrifice is a poignant reminder of the courage and devotion with which our soldiers serve—even in the harshest conditions.
