Mandi, May 30:
To mark Hindi Journalism Day, a seminar was organized by the Mandi Press Club, bringing together journalists from across the district to reflect on their experiences, the legacy of Hindi journalism, and its evolving challenges. The seminar was presided over by veteran journalist D.P. Gupta, with Dr. Chaman Premi, Head of the Department of Journalism and Communication at Vallabh Government College, Mandi, and District Information and Public Relations Officer Hemant Sharma as special guests.

In his address, D.P. Gupta noted that Hindi journalism has completed 199 remarkable years, playing a crucial role from the time of India’s freedom struggle to addressing contemporary social issues. He emphasized that in today’s rapidly changing media landscape, maintaining the credibility of news is the greatest challenge. “It is more important than ever to ensure that news is factual, balanced, and impartial,” he said. Gupta also announced that a workshop for both emerging and senior journalists will soon be held at the district level to discuss various aspects of journalism.

Dr. Chaman Premi spoke on the transformation of the media landscape, pointing out the growing concerns over misinformation. “While people now have greater access to information, they are also increasingly exposed to fake news,” he said. He urged media professionals to uphold truth and accuracy in their reporting. Reflecting on the legacy of Hindi journalism, he added, “The role of journalists during India’s independence movement is a proud chapter in our history—one that must never be forgotten.”

Veteran journalists Birbal Sharma and Murari Sharma, along with Press Club President Subhash Thakur, Vice President Monika Thakur, General Secretary Hans Raj Saini, and Treasurer Bhagat Guleria, were also present. Many journalists took the opportunity to share their personal insights and professional journeys, making the event a meaningful tribute to Hindi journalism’s enduring impact.
