Shimla, May 30: In a surprising turn of events, a tipper truck valued at ₹45 lakh was stolen right from outside a police station in the Kala Amb area of Sirmaur district, Himachal Pradesh. The vehicle, bearing registration number HR 37 E 5499, belonged to Mukhtiyar, a resident of Ujjal Majri village in Ambala district, Haryana.
According to police sources, the truck had been seized on May 18 in connection with an illegal mining case. On May 27, a court ordered the release of the vehicle. However, before the handover could take place, the truck was stolen that very night—from just outside the police station.
What makes the case particularly alarming is that the tipper was parked right under the nose of law enforcement, and yet, thieves managed to drive it away without hesitation. The incident raises serious concerns over the level of vigilance and security at the police station.
The owner has submitted a written complaint to Superintendent of Police Nishchint Negi, urging swift recovery of the stolen vehicle. He stated that the seizure and subsequent theft of the truck have caused him financial losses of nearly ₹35,000 per day. He also emphasized that the vehicle’s market value is around ₹45 lakh.
SP Nishchint Negi confirmed the theft to MBM News Network and stated that an investigation is underway. He assured that efforts are being made to trace and recover the stolen truck at the earliest. He also acknowledged the lack of space inside the station premises, which often forces the police to park impounded vehicles outside.
Nonetheless, the fact that a vehicle was stolen right from under police supervision highlights a major lapse in security. It also reflects the growing audacity of criminal elements. All eyes are now on the police to see how quickly and effectively they act to resolve the case.
