Veterans and Families of Martyrs Felicitated
Shimla, May 30:
While the BJP is organizing ‘Tiranga Yatras’ across the country to mark Operation Sindhura, the Congress is holding ‘Jai Hind Sabhas’ in tribute to the Indian Army. As part of this initiative, the Himachal Pradesh Congress organized a Jai Hind Sabha at Peterhof in Shimla on Thursday. Senior Congress leader Ajay Maken was the chief guest at the event, which honored ex-servicemen and the families of fallen soldiers.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Congress state in-charge Rajni Patil, Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, along with several ministers, MLAs, and party workers were also present.
Addressing the gathering, Ajay Maken said that such Jai Hind Sabhas are being held in 15 locations across the country, and holding one in Shimla is historically significant. “It was here that the Shimla Agreement was signed. But India has broken that very agreement. For the first time in 75 years, another country—namely the United States—intervened and announced a ceasefire,” Maken said.
He further questioned the government’s silence: “The nation wants to know the terms of this ceasefire, but the Centre is refusing to answer. The Congress has never politicized the armed forces or sought credit in their name. No international voice condemned Pakistan after the Pahalgam attack, which raises serious questions about India’s current foreign policy.”
Congress in-charge Rajni Patil also criticized the BJP, saying it is using the armed forces for political mileage. “While the BJP tries to claim credit for Operation Sindhura, it is worth remembering that Congress leaders have made sacrifices for the nation. We brought Pakistan to its knees in 1971 without ever politicizing the Army,” she said.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu added that Himachal Pradesh’s brave sons have always made the state proud—whether in the 1962 war, the 1971 conflict, or the 1999 Kargil war. “Himachal’s soldiers played a key role in Operation Sindhura too,” he said. “Today’s Jai Hind Sabha was organized to honor the courage and sacrifices of our soldiers, martyrs, and their families.”
At the event, families of martyrs and retired servicemen were felicitated with cash awards and certificates of appreciation. The Chief Minister also criticized the BJP for politicizing the military, calling it deeply unfortunate.
