Shimla, May 31:
Himachal Pradesh is set to receive its second Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) hospital, a major step forward in strengthening the state’s healthcare infrastructure for insured workers. Union Minister for Labour & Employment and Youth Affairs & Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, will formally inaugurate the newly constructed 30-bed ESIC hospital in Kala Amb, Sirmaur district, on May 31.

Designed with future expansion in mind, the facility has the capacity to be upgraded to a 100-bed hospital and had been awaiting its official launch for some time.

A Major Boost for Workers’ Healthcare

This state-of-the-art hospital is being hailed as a significant advancement in delivering accessible, quality healthcare to industrial workers covered under the ESI scheme. Built at an estimated cost of ₹100 crore, the hospital is expected to directly benefit over 100,000 insured beneficiaries in Kala Amb, Nahan, Paonta Sahib, and nearby regions.

Honouring the Hands Behind the Project

A highlight of the inaugural event will be the special recognition of construction workers who contributed to building the hospital. Dr. Mandaviya is scheduled to felicitate these workers—a symbolic and meaningful gesture that acknowledges their dedication and hard work.

Infrastructure and Facilities

Construction of the hospital began on March 28, 2022, and has resulted in a modern G+2 structure spread across 13,532.77 square meters. The total built-up area, including 2,094.74 square meters for staff quarters and 65.79 square meters for auxiliary services, stands at 16,293.30 square meters.

Comprehensive Medical Services

The new facility will offer a wide range of medical services to ESI beneficiaries and their families. Departments include General Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology, and Dentistry. The hospital is equipped with modern infrastructure, including modular operation theatres, a Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD), and a medical gas pipeline system. Both OPD (Outpatient) and IPD (Inpatient) services will be available under one roof, ensuring holistic care.

Status of ESIC in Himachal Pradesh

Currently, approximately 4.1 lakh individuals are registered under the ESIC scheme in Himachal Pradesh, with over 15 lakh people benefiting from its medical and cash benefits. These services are delivered through 12 branch offices, one DCB office, and 17 state-run dispensaries.

The state already has one 100-bed ESIC Model Hospital operating in Katha, Baddi. Additionally, 28 super-speciality and 64 secondary care hospitals have been empanelled under the Directorate General of Health Services (DHSR) to provide advanced medical care to insured workers.

The new Kala Amb hospital is expected to significantly ease the burden on existing healthcare infrastructure and bring high-quality medical services closer to industrial workers in southern Himachal Pradesh.
