Kangra, May 29:
In a rare and startling development from the otherwise peaceful state of Himachal Pradesh, a 20-year-old man from Sukahar village in the Chalali panchayat has been arrested for allegedly compromising national security and disturbing public order.
The arrest was made in the early hours of May 28, when a special police team, acting on confidential intelligence, raided the suspect’s residence. The operation was carried out under the supervision of the Deputy Sub-Divisional Police Officer of Dadasiba.
According to police sources, the accused—identified as Abhishek—was found in possession of sensitive and potentially harmful information related to national security. Forensic teams also discovered that attempts had been made to delete certain data from his mobile phone. Technical experts are now working to recover the deleted files.
Preliminary investigation suggests that Abhishek, a college dropout, had been involved in suspicious online activities for some time. Authorities had been monitoring his movements and behavior closely, and his arrest followed weeks of verification and surveillance.
The police have registered a case under Section 152 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), considering the matter highly sensitive. Central and state intelligence agencies have been brought in to assist with the investigation. Officials are also probing whether the suspect was part of a larger espionage or cyber network.
Confirming the arrest, Dehra Superintendent of Police Mayank Chaudhary stated that no compromise would be tolerated when it comes to the state’s security. “Himachal Pradesh is known for its peace and order, and we will not allow anti-national elements to take root here,” he said. Police have assured that strict action will be taken as the investigation continues.
