Shimla, May 28:
The Vimal Negi death case continues to trouble the Himachal Pradesh government, with pressure mounting from multiple fronts. Seizing the moment, the opposition BJP has intensified its attack, taking the matter to the Governor today. A delegation of BJP legislators submitted a memorandum to Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla, placing five major demands and calling for the resignation of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on moral grounds.

Leader of the Opposition Jairam Thakur alleged that the Congress government is facing serious charges of corruption, administrative failure, and indiscipline. He said the Chief Minister no longer holds the moral authority to continue in office. Thakur accused CM Sukhu of misleading the public by denying that the Negi family had demanded a CBI inquiry, even though the family repeatedly made such appeals. He also criticized Sukhu for making remarks about a court order, terming it a case of contempt of court.

The BJP delegation urged the Governor to ensure the following:

  1. Preservation of Evidence: Safeguard all evidence related to Vimal Negi’s death, ensuring no tampering or destruction takes place.

  2. Strict Action Against Tampering: Take stringent action against officials responsible for manipulating or interfering with evidence, as indicated in reports submitted to the High Court by the DGP and others.

  3. Independent Inquiry into Allegations: Investigate the allegations made by the Shimla SP against senior officials through the CBI.

  4. Expansion of CBI Probe: Widen the scope of the CBI inquiry to include alleged corruption within the Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd (HPPCL).

  5. ED Investigation: Request the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to look into the financial irregularities within HPPCL.

The BJP also demanded the immediate dismissal of the Shimla SP, claiming it would be a step toward restoring administrative discipline. The party said that unless decisive action is taken, public faith in the system will continue to erode.
